Monthly Theme Number 1
Each month the WHAM! writing group chooses a theme: a topic to write about for the following month.
This is designed to provide a focus for writing, in case inspiration doesn’t strike…
You can either write to this theme, or ignore it altogether and write about what interests you, instead… We find time in the group meeting to discuss both sorts of topic.
We’ll ask you to read your piece aloud, so we can give immediate feedback - but it’s never compulsory to read aloud. You can ask not to, or have someone else read for you, if you prefer.
A hint about reading aloud: print your text if you can - reading from a portable screen is actually quite difficult. And if you print out the text: double-space the lines, and use a large, clear font.
Theme for Meeting One, 2023 - Tuesday February 21st:
‘My life in five items or less.’
This takes up an idea from a recent publication: ‘A history of New Zealand in 100 objects.’
How far do objects help capture and explain the experiences and significance of our lives?
Choose 5 items which have carried meaning for you - and write about what they convey.
